Let it shine

This is the Yaquina Head lighthouse. One of the most beautiful lighthouses in America, is a classic seacoast tower. Illuminated in 1873, its first-order Fresnel lens still shines. The 95-foot white. conical tower is the tallest on the Oregon coast and stands proudly 162 feet above sea level in Newport, Oregon

Gorgeous. I love the moody skies. I am getting ready to post a few of a lighthouse as well. Mine was located in Havre de Grace, MD and is the oldest continuous operating lighthouse in the USA! It is so interesting how each light house is so unique in its architecture and character. Great capture!

She's a beaut, Marion. Do you have lighthouses on your island? (I know that sound kind of weird ... but it just popped into my head as I sat here looking at this.)

@Ron: Yes we do have lighthouses here, probably not as grand as this one though. Our little Island is really quite a big one. Here's a few facts about us. Vancouver Island is the largest island off the west coast of North America. Tucked against the mainland coast of British Columbia and the north shore of Washington State's Olympic Peninsula, Vancouver Island occupies an area about the size of Holland. It stretches 500 km (320 miles) southeast to northwest with an area of 3,175,000 hectares and 2,150 miles of coastline. It is separated from Vancouver, BC by the Strait of Georgia to the east and from Washington State, U.S.A. by the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the south and southeast. Vancouver Island is actually closer to the United States than to mainland Canada.

I remember this lighthouse very well during my only trip to the West Coast in 1995. We climbed to the top, and then climbed the stairs from Newport Beach to the top... my legs screamed for days afterward! :-)
