This is a very far away shot of the Heceta Head Lighthouse. We got there too late in the evening to gain access. This lighthouse, in its natural setting, is one of the most awe-inspiring to be found anywhere in the world, Commissioned in 1894, this lighthouse located north of Florence is still in service as an aid to navigation. The 56-foot tower stands 205 feet above sea level and can be seen as far as 21 miles out to sea.
I am on holidays from August 17th until August 26th ....whee!! Although I will be home for the first few days, on the 21st we are heading to the States mainly to go to Tacoma Washington to attend the Gaither Gospel Homecoming Tour on Friday the 22nd. We are in for a real treat. We will also be tourists for a while and hopefully will come back with lots of good pictures. Anyhow, all of that to say I probably won't be visiting your wonderful sites for at least the 21st - 26th, but I promise I will catch up. I will prepost.
very cool shot. The white is so different from the green and blue in the image.

Yes, it is difficult to get close to this one and it truly is gorgeous - in person and in photos!
Ahem..., coming from New England, I have to say that Bass Harbor Light built in 1958 (a little history) and the Portland Head Light in Maine vie in this competition. <big grin>
Ask Mike, you can take the 'girl' out of New England, but you can't take New England out of her heart! ;D

@Judy: You are such a brat <grin> and I checked out your sites and I have to agree with you. I especially love the Portland Head Light in Maine. But beings you are on the East coast and I am on the West coast could you please go and photograph them???? xoxox
Now then, this is a shot where I can really see whats going on. Beautiful diagonal element crossing the frame, and good foreground too.

I thought that lighthouses were always in the sea... ! Unexpected !
27 Jun 2008 1:17pm
@Florence: Hi Florence. None of the ones along the Oregon Coast are in the sea, but rather above the ocean on a cliff overlooking the ocean. There was one way out in the ocean that way too far out to get a picture of. Thanks for your comment.
beautiful scene... I love the lighthouse... Yes i agree with judy... there are some really beautiful ones in New England...area...but this is a great shot.....

Always so fascinated by the old fashioned - ness of lighthouses, they seem so archaic in an age of radar and gps. They are still beautiful as this image portrays
