Oregon Lighthouses iii

Posted by Marion (Nanaimo, BC, Canada) on 25 June 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This is Cape Meares Lighthouse. This lighthouse was built in 1890 on the outer edge of a high, bold headland just south of Tillamock Bay. The 38-foot tower is the shortest on the Oregon coast and stands 217 feet above the water on near vertical cliffs. In 1963 the orignal first-order Fresnel lens was de-commissioned and replaced with an automatic beacon. Vistors today can view the lighthouse by taking a leisurely stroll through a corridor of trees down to the lighthouse. It was a beautiful bright sunny day and yes I climbed to the top. Maybe 10 steps ?? I was exhausted when I was finished :)). Not, but the hill up and down was quite a climb.

Back from our four day adventure on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Most days were bright and beautiful. I hope you enjoy my pictures.
